Artist Statement
Since 1988 I have worked full time as an illustrator/painter selling primarily through Fine Arts Festival across the country. My cliental includes individual collectors as well as corporations such as John Deere, Dillard’s Department Stores and Nordstrom’s to name a few.
I am currently working in acrylics on canvas in what may best be described as “abstract landscape” emphasizing color, texture and form. Along the same theme I am branching out into a new medium, Digital Art.
As a relatively new and emerging art form, Digital Art encompasses an endless variety of approaches, tools and outcomes. Having been a painter and illustrator for over twenty years my personal style and approach have carried forward only to be enhanced with the technical abilities that an assortment of computer software programs can add.
At times I know exactly where I am headed creatively, starting with a detailed sketch as a guide, then painting and drawing in the computer with programs such as Photoshop and/or Corel Paint to achieve a specific final image. At other times, I may create an abstract form and begin to manipulate shape, texture, light and color with software and filters to arrive at an abstract image that I find to be ultimately pleasing and peaceful. Sometimes knowing when to stop can be the real challenge.
Once I am satisfied with the final image, I print it onto 100% Cotton canvas using Archival Pigment inks on a Canon W8400 wide format printer. After 24 hours cure time it is then coated with a water based UV protective varnish for ultimate durability. An additional 24 hour cure times is then allowed before I stretch it on heavy duty 1 ½” Gallery Wrap stretcher bars. The sides, top and bottom are printed with a mirror image of the outer edge of the original artwork to allow 100% of the artwork to be on the front surface, at the same time eliminating the need for a plain solid color edge to the Gallery Wrap. Each image is signed and numbered in Limited Editions of 50.
